Double Olympian hockey player Calum Giles runs an excellent coaching service and holiday hockey coaching camps.  I spoke to him at one of these camps and he was keen to discuss a brand makeover.

Firstly we needed to re-invent his character and come up with something that identified with the sport and that the kids would love. Also this character needed to be used in various formats. i.e. as a head only icon logo. Therefore the sticks on the hat was a great solution to keeping it obviously hockey related. Keeping the yellow and blue colours of the past, we set this on black to make things more modern and appealing for the younger generation.

With the help of one of my illustrators we set about creating a new mascot.

As is always the case with simple characters – everything has to be on the money otherwise the eye doesn’t believe the image and tells the brain that something isn’t right. After lots of tinkering we came to a solution.

Then we went about designing the site. Calum and I created ideas to really get the kids involved – with ways of encouraging facebook likes and signing up to newsletters.  We created an image gallery that requires a password for safety reasons.  We have created a site which prevents a sea of phone calls and questions for Calum as all the information is there to see and access.  We were heavily involved in the written content and synchronised the site to an online shop. This really is an example of how we can completely change and shape your business to your needs. A total game changing re-brand. Next we went on the apply the brand to all areas – t-shirts, socks, banners, business cards, iphone wallpapers, ipad wallpapers, desktop wallpapers, etc. all contributing to brand awareness and welcoming kids into the Stickwise family.

The website is now synchronised to facebook, twitter, mail chimp and Calum is saving an incredible amount of time, further to that he is able to manage his brand’s voice and image easily.
