Polo Professional Magazine

Posted by Tom O'Boyle on Jun 16, 2014 in Uncategorized | No Comments

POLO ENTHUSIASTS….YOU MUST BUY THIS MAGAZINE… Otherwise its back to reading about what who was wearing when they said hello to someone we don’t care about at their celebratory Polo match that only beneficiaries were interested in. THIS IS A GREAT MAGAZINE FOR THOSE WHO LOVE THE GAME AND ALL EQUINE ENTHUSIASTS.

Here’s the story…

Elly and Glenn Salter discovered my services via a google search and we met to discussed their dream…a Polo Magazine. With current Polo magazines “becoming more and more like OK and Hello” they felt it was time to do something about it. Tired of reading about money oriented events, pointless gossip and self obsessed wannabes, they wanted to provide a magazine that the Polo world could love. A magazine which focussed solely on the game itself, the players, the ponies and all the key elements of a very fast paced and dangerous game. The magazine would be scrutinised, quickly judged and swiftly dismissed unless it immediately looked the part and gave the correct impression. NO PRESSURE!

I soon understood what was required and quickly set about creating a range of ideas for their logo. This process then focussed my consideration of how the logo would be used, I realised what we needed and produced a very versatile set of branding collateral that could be applied to a wide range of mediums.

Once I created their style guide – the media pack and business cards flowed forth.

Glenn and Elly are my favourite sort of client as they listen to advice, take it on board, use it and provide me with fantastic content. For example, I suggested having a ‘Hero Shot’ – an image with which Polo Professional would become synonymous. This has worked brilliantly and the image they provided shows exactly what Polo Professional is all about – getting it right!  The technique involved matches the accuracy of information and detail within the magazine – it’s all about great Polo and the sport itself.

Next then came the Polo Professional website, which has been a real hit with the target audience. A twitter feed and blog have helped greatly with SEO and the site continues to get a large number of hits with viewers browsing the entire site before leaving.

Finally all that was left was to create the magazine. This was a fantastic job – each article having its own style and personality made it a very enjoyable task. The front cover title came to me fairly quickly as it seemed so fitting as we hoped Polo Pro would become the leading Polo Magazine. We were keen for the magazine to not feel cramped and to give each article the space it deserved. Fantastic photography and well written content make this a great read – even if you don’t like Polo – its a great read for all equine enthusiasts.

I’m very proud of this and believe in the magazine and its worth greatly, as does everyone involved in the Polo world who hears about it.  It is wholeheartedly agreed that there is a need for this magazine, there is a desire to read these well thought out articles and reports and there is a need for a new magazine such as this one in the world of Polo. However all of those who think its a great idea, who love the sport, who want to read it and want to see it continue to be produced – need to support it and buy it. Otherwise its back to reading about what who was wearing, when they said hello to someone we don’t care about at their celebratory Polo match, that only beneficiaries were interested in.

The magazine is currently live and ready to buy. Get the App on Apple or Android or just read it via Flickread – a non-app based solution.
